Taught by Jason Johnson-Spinos, Becca Johnson-Spinos, and Benjamin McElroy
Learn the fundamentals of auditioning: selecting and preparing a monologue, how to dress and behave, headshots, resumes, cold readings, callbacks, and more. Students will prepare a monologue or song for future use.

More about teacher Becca Johnson-Spinos:
The Artistic Director of Outcry Theatre, Becca received her MFA in Directing for Theatre from Baylor University, which culminated with her thesis production of The Seagull. At Baylor, in addition to directing numerous workshop productions, she also directed Brilliant Traces and assistant directed Blood Wedding. Becca earned her BFA in Music Theatre from Elon University, and attended Playwrights Horizons Directing Lab and Shakespeare’s Globe and Washington University’s Shakespeare Intensive. She wrote, directed, and performed a one-woman show for the New York Fringe Festival. Additionally, Becca worked as an assistant to the Artistic Director at Burning Coal Theatre Company in North Carolina, where she also assistant directed and performed. In the Dallas area, she previously served as a director at Plano Children’s Theatre (directing over 25 productions), as well as their daytime show manager. She was named one of the Best Directors for 2018 by John Garcia for Outcry Theatre’s production of Spring’s Awakening.

A theatre and film artist and educator, Jason wears many hats at Outcry Theatre. He is the Marketing Director, a teacher, director, and the resident projection, lighting, and sound designer. Jason is a graduate of Elon University, with degrees in Theatre Studies and Cinema Communications. As a documentary film editor, he has edited numerous features, shorts, and museum films. He has designed Off-Broadway for Texas in Paris (sound/projections) and Lonesome Blues (sound). He was a theatre teacher at Universal Academy - Coppell, where his UIL One Act Play of The Chastening advanced to the 2017 State Championship. Jason has acted professionally with WaterTower Theatre, Shakespeare Dallas, Burning Coal Theatre, Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre, and Outcry Theatre. As a playwright, he is a regular contributor to the One-Minute Play Festival from Kitchen Dog Theater.

A proud alum of Outcry Youth Theatre, Ben graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a BA in Theatre with an emphasis in Acting/Directing as well as a minor in Management. He is also a published playwright. His play The Boy With the Wooden Heart was nominated for the SETC Ready to Publish award in 2019. He is still an avid actor and has acted with various DFW theatres such as Pegasus Theatre and Plague Mask Players. He also served as an assistant director under Katrina C. Tarson the Education and Management Manager of the North Carolina Theatre in the summer of 2022.
