Perhaps William Shakespeare’s greatest and most beautiful comedy, A Midsummer Night's Dream is full of love, whimsy, and magic. The play revolves around three sets of overlapping characters. There are four warring lovers. Lysander and Hermia are in love, but Hermia's father has betrothed her to Demetrius. Helena loves Demetrius, even though he pursues Hermia. Lysander and Hermia escape into the Athenian woods to escape the tyranny of their parents, followed by Demetrius and Helena. When they are discovered by a group of meddling fairies, romantic hijinks ensue. Already within the woods, there is a group of amateur actors - led by the bombastic Nick Bottom - who are rehearsing for a play. There is a fairy couple, Oberon and Titania, who are also at war. Their fairy servants, including the famous Puck, meddle in the affairs of both humans and fairies - mix up love potions, turn people into donkeys, and generally cause chaos. At the end of a long night of magic and merriment, who will love who, and will it seem more real or more like a dream?
