About Outcry Reads
Outcry Reads is a new series of play readings. Outcry Theatre will produce four readings of new works by local DFW playwrights. Local actors will be cast, and an Outcry staff member will direct the readings. The readings will take place at the Outcry Theatre Rehearsal Location in Plano, Texas. The readings will be free to attend, with limited seating for up to 20 audience members. There will be a talkback following the readings, moderated by the director, where the audience members and actors can discuss the play with the playwright.

Submission Guidelines
- All submitting playwrights must live in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and be able to attend the reading and the rehearsal that will take place the previous Friday.
- Playwrights will need to provide a list of what they would like to learn from the talkback, including specific questions they would like answered.
- Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis.
- Playwrights may only submit one play per season.
- Only non-musicals will be considered.

Each reading will be a time commitment from 6-10pm and will have a four-hour rehearsal the Friday before, also from 6-10pm. No conflicts will be accepted.

Austin & Huntsville Synopsis
As a controversial prison reform bill is making its way through the Texas state senate, an aide takes it upon herself to blackmail a senator, ensuring the bill’s passage. While all of this is happening, the L’Estrange family is living through the very real consequences of the prison system. The elder brother Alex is starting a two-year sentence, he becomes acquainted with a magical voice that refers to itself only as “the Narrator”. The lives of this family and the dirty politics of the state capitol come crashing together when one senator pays to have another killed.

Senator Laura Bravo - A Mexican American woman in her early 30s.
Senator Terry Bentham / The Narrator - A white man in his 50s & a disembodied voice.
