Reviews
"Hearts Like Fists is a smart addition to Outcry’s body of work." "Crime fighting women in form fitting costumes and masks, a sinister Dr. X terrorizing the city and a dreamy doctor afraid of love. The mission of Outcry Theatre is to draw teenagers and young adults to the theater, but full-fledged adults will find a lot to enjoy, too. Under the spirited direction of Becca Johnson-Spinos, the ensemble moves nimbly on two simultaneous levels in this story about taking chance on love in a comic book world. The roles may be caricatures, but the actors project feelings that are real and intense."
-Nancy Churnin, Dallas Morning News
"At the Margo Jones Theatre, Outcry Theatre's Hearts Like Fists has brawn, brains and heart." "As satisfying as the show is, it’s as much fun to watch an audience expecting a light comedy grow invested in the goings on. By focusing on the humanity of these heightened characters, Outcry succeeds in heightening the humanity of its audience. Super heroes, indeed."
-David Novinski, TheaterJones
"The perfect preface to Dallas Comic Con, Hearts Like Fists is a lightweight teaser, full of humorous bits, good fight sequences, and some full-out characterizations. There are laugh-out-loud, slap your leg moments and thoroughly enjoyable performances, enough to make even a die-hard comic book nerd happy."
-Mary L. Clark, John Garcia's The Column
"Hearts Like Fists is grand, preposterous, off-the-wall merriment, done with panache you can only find at Outcry Theatre."
-Christopher Soden, Dallas GLBT Arts Examiner
