Peter, Lola, Blossom, Abigail, Oliver. Five sixteen-year-old orphans, living in a near future, are brought to a place unlike anything they have ever known. It has no walls, no ceiling, no floor. Nothing but endless flights of stairs leading nowhere – except back to the machine. The five will learn to love the machine, will let it rule their lives. But will they let it kill their souls?

Reviews
“House of Stairs is both thought-provoking and riveting. It’s an impressive adaptation that holds the audience’s attention from the beginning. The audience is brought into the fold of the disquieting atmosphere and the plot keeps us on edge. By the middle of the second act, I felt like I was in a horror movie—the really good kind. The 2001 Space Odyssey kind. I highly recommend this production.”
-Ann Saucer, Associate Critic, John Garcia's The Column
“Outcry Theatre has a gift for consistently producing drama that is intriguing, surprising, challenging and meticulous. The cast of House of Stairs is spot on. Polished but authentic. Intuitive but poised. Professional but present.”
-Christopher Soden, Sharp Critic
“Adapted by Jason Johnson-Spinos of Outcry Theatre from the 1974 novel by William Sleator, House of Stairs is a chilling, Lord of the Flies-ish look at how easily buttons can be pushed to turn humans into pitiless beings only interested in their own survival.”
-Jan Farrington, Onstage NTX
“Marcy Bogner, Apache Browne, Samantha Garcia, Stori James, and Adrian Theisen all deliver confident, convincing performances in roles that would challenge seasoned professionals. Director Jason Johnson-Spinos keeps the action fast paced but allows time for the audience to become familiar with each character.”
-Doug Sturdivant, DFW Center Stage
