On their quest for the Golden Fleece, Jason and his crew, with the guidance and protection of the goddesses Hera and Athena, encounter an array of daunting challenges: a water nymph, harpies, a monstrous boxer, a dragon, and more. Bursts of humor and fantastical creatures enrich a story whose characters reveal remarkable complexity. Zimmerman brings to Argonautika her trademark ability to encompass the full range of human experience in a work as entertaining as it is enlightening.
